Bruce Lee

Atari 8-bit

Bruce Lee is a platform beat 'em up where the legendary martial artist explores a wizard's tower, seeking infinite wealth and the secret of immortality. The game consists of twenty chambers, each a single screen with platforms, ladders, and climbing nets. To progress, Bruce must collect all lanterns suspended around each chamber, which opens an exit to the next area. Two enemies guard most chambers: the black Ninja who attacks with a bokken stick, and the Green Yamo, a large sumo warrior who punches and kicks. Bruce can punch, kick, or perform flying kicks. Later chambers introduce moving walls, mines, and electric sparks racing along comb-like surfaces. After the twentieth chamber, Bruce faces the evil Fire Wizard.

Released in April 1984 by Datasoft, this is the original version of the game, designed by Ron J. Fortier with graphics by Kelly Day and music by John A. Fitzpatrick . The Atari version features fast and responsive controls, polished design, and clever level layouts that set the standard for all subsequent ports . Computer Gaming World stated that the Atari version "delivers all the foot kicking, kick jabbing, quick ducking action-packed adventure you'd expect from a good grade B, martial arts movie" . The game supports three modes: one player, two players alternating, and two players simultaneous (one controls Bruce, the other controls Yamo) . Later chambers include hazards such as mines, moving walls, and electric sparks. Upon completing the game, it loops with increased difficulty—from the second loop on, the Ninja and Yamo are replaced instantly when killed, and safe spots in hazard rooms are removed .
