ECW Hardcore Revolution

PlayStation

ECW Hardcore Revolution is a professional wrestling video game developed by Acclaim Studios Salt Lake City and published by Acclaim Entertainment. Based on Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), it was the first wrestling game to feature ECW and the first to receive a Mature rating. The roster includes over 40 ECW stars such as Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Tommy Dreamer, and Raven. Match types include Barbed Wire Match, Cage Match, and Street Fight. Weapons include chairs, ladders, and a staple gun. Career Mode takes you through 80 matches to reach the ECW World Heavyweight Championship.

PlayStation

Released in North America on November 8, 1999, and in Europe in March 2000. Critical reception was overwhelmingly negative, with the game widely panned as a "lazy port" of WWF Attitude. Reviewers noted that the developers simply replaced WWF wrestlers with ECW skins and changed menu colors, but left everything identical, including the same animations and move sets. This approach failed to capture ECW's unique hardcore atmosphere. The gameplay was criticized for stiff controls, unresponsive grappling, and tedious career mode with repetitive matches. Positive elements included the authentic Joey Styles commentary and the large selection of weapons. The PlayStation version sold 700,000 copies in North America, considered a commercial failure for a licensed wrestling game. A deeply flawed game—recommended only for hardcore ECW fans or collectors.
