ECW Hardcore Revolution

Dreamcast

ECW Hardcore Revolution is a professional wrestling video game developed by Acclaim Studios Salt Lake City and published by Acclaim Entertainment. Based on Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), it was the first wrestling game to feature ECW and the first to receive a Mature rating. The roster includes over 40 ECW stars such as Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Tommy Dreamer, and Raven. Match types include Barbed Wire Match, Cage Match, Street Fight, and Last Man Standing. Weapons include chairs, ladders, and a staple gun. Career Mode takes you through 80 matches to reach the ECW World Heavyweight Championship.

Dreamcast

Released in North America on February 29, 2000. The Dreamcast port features significant graphical improvements over other versions: higher resolution textures, more detailed character models, and videotaped crowds instead of static stills. Wrestler animations were resampled, making the game faster and smoother. Critical reception was mixed but the Dreamcast version was considered the best of the three. Critics praised the authentic ECW atmosphere, Joey Styles's commentary, the deep create-a-wrestler mode, and the large weapon selection. However, reviewers universally noted that the game was essentially a reskin of WWF Attitude, merely replacing WWF assets with ECW wrestlers without capturing the unique spirit of the promotion. The awkward menu system and tedious career mode were also criticized. A decent but unremarkable wrestling game—the best version available, but recommended only for ECW completists.
