Wrath of the Demon is a fantasy hack-and-slash action game developed by Abstrax and published by ReadySoft in 1991. The evil wizard Anthrax summons a Demon to usurp the kingdom, unleashing a horde of monsters. A brave warrior answers the king's call and begins his quest. Gameplay is divided into distinct styles: horseback riding levels (parallax scrolling), side-scrolling platforming on foot, and arena battles against multiple enemies. The hero fights with punches and later a blade, collects potions and gold. Music by David Whittaker.
Commodore 64
Released in 1991, programmed by David Foster and Pierre Proulx. Features multiple side-scrolling sections separated by action sequences, including the horseback stage where you jump obstacles and fight flying enemies. Sprite graphics are detailed, with a large demon boss filling half the screen during the final confrontation. Music and sound effects use the SID chip. As a later port, it suffers from reduced colour palette and slower scrolling compared to the Amiga original. Control can be frustrating due to strict timing for attacks and jumps, making the game notoriously difficult. Two combat systems exist: standard platform fighting and stationary arena battles against goblins and projectile throwers, where crouching and precise timing are essential. Linear progression leads to the final boss.
