Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Action Game is a side-scrolling action-adventure based on the 1989 film of the same name. As in the movie, your quest is to find the Holy Grail. Before that, you must find the Cross of Coronado, the Knight's Shield, and your father's Grail Diary across four levels: the caves underneath Utah, a moving circus train, the Venetian Catacombs of Castle Brunwald, a German Zeppelin, and finally the Grail Temple. Indy is armed with his trusty whip to fight off foes, and can also engage in hand-to-hand combat. The Zeppelin level includes a boarding pass meter that diminishes over time—once gone, guards become more alert. The final level features a beating heart representing Indy's father's health; you must reach the Grail before time runs out.
Master System
Released in December 1990 in Europe by U.S. Gold, developed by Tiertex Design Studios on a 256KB cartridge with six levels . For some reason, this version has no music except the five-second Indiana Jones theme jingle during the introduction . The whip weapon lasts only five swipes before disappearing, and enemies have no recovery time between hits, allowing them to simply walk over Indy and deplete his health in seconds . Boss battles and the pistol power-up from other versions are removed . The controls suffer from noticeable lag, and players must jump earlier than expected near ledges to avoid falling. A forum user noted the game "smacks of being distinctly unfinished" due to the missing music and technical compromises . The game was also distributed in Brazil by Tec Toy .
