Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

DOS

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Action Game is a side-scrolling action-adventure based on the 1989 film of the same name. As in the movie, your quest is to find the Holy Grail. Before that, you must find the Cross of Coronado, the Knight's Shield, and your father's Grail Diary across four levels: the caves underneath Utah, a moving circus train, the Venetian Catacombs of Castle Brunwald, a German Zeppelin, and finally the Grail Temple. Indy is armed with his trusty whip to fight off foes, and can also engage in hand-to-hand combat. The Zeppelin level includes a boarding pass meter that diminishes over time—once gone, guards become more alert. The final level features a beating heart representing Indy's father's health; you must reach the Grail before time runs out.

DOS

Released in December 1989 by U.S. Gold and Lucasfilm Games, developed by Tiertex Ltd. The DOS version supports multiple graphics modes including CGA, EGA, and VGA. Critical reception for this port was mixed, averaging 62% from 51 critic ratings at the time. The game preserves all four levels from the film, with players navigating Indiana Jones through platform-based stages that require precise jumping and whip combat. The DOS version was criticized for frustrating difficulty, including long, energy-draining falls and enemies carrying knives or guns that inflict heavy damage. The sound effects and music are present but minimal compared to other versions. Unlike the more famous LucasArts graphic adventure released the same year, this action-oriented conversion focuses primarily on reflexes and combat rather than puzzle-solving.
