BMX Racers is a top-down racing game where you ride a bicycle through a park after your brakes suddenly fail. You cannot stop pedaling, so you must avoid all obstacles for as long as possible. The screen scrolls vertically as you ride along a winding path. Obstacles include moving cars, other bikers, oil patches, trees, fences, swimming pools, and a granny who throws her walking stick at your wheels. You can steer left and right, accelerate or slow down using forward/backward controls, and use ramps to jump for bonus points. You simply survive as long as possible while your score increases. The game is controlled via joystick or keyboard.
Commodore 16
Released in 1985 by Mastertronic, this conversion was programmed by Tony Kelly rather than the Darling brothers who handled the Commodore 64 original . The C16 version sold 120,227 units, a respectable figure for the platform . The game features similar PETSCII-style graphics to its C64 counterpart, with basic visuals typical of budget releases on the C16 hardware. The core gameplay remains identical: navigate a vertically scrolling path while avoiding hazards including cars, fences, bridges, swimming pools, and pedestrians. Unlike the original C64 version which offered three lives, the C16 version follows the re-released C64 formula with only one life—crash into any hazard and the game ends immediately . The simplistic music consists of a single instrument track that repeats throughout. Players have noted that obstacles can be memorized over repeated attempts, making it a pure "score attack" experience. Mastertronic published the game on cassette tape for the Commodore 16 and its sibling the Plus/4 .
