Desert Falcon is an isometric scrolling shooter set against the backdrop of ancient Egyptian mythology. You take on the role of a falcon on a quest to recover the Pharaoh's scattered treasures lost across the desert sands. The gameplay unfolds from a diagonal, pseudo-3D perspective often compared to Sega's Zaxxon. Your goal is to collect treasures such as golden eggs and gems while navigating a scrolling desert filled with obstacles like pyramids and fire pots. Enemies include vultures, warriors, scarabs, and flying fish. Your falcon is armed with arrows to eliminate them. At the end of each level, you face a giant Sphinx that shoots darts from its eyes. The game features a unique hieroglyph system: by landing and hopping over three hieroglyphs, you unlock temporary super powers such as invincibility, teleportation, or an air bomb.

Atari 8-bit

Released by Atari Corporation in 1988 for the Atari XE Game System, this version was programmed by Ken Rose. The 8-bit port is a noticeable visual downgrade from the Atari 7800 version, featuring less detailed graphics, fewer colors, and choppier scrolling. Contemporary reviews were mixed: ANALOG Computing praised the graphics but called the Egyptian theme "tired and boring." Players begin with five lives, and the difficulty select toggles between Novice, Standard, Advanced, and Expert. The game uses the standard one-button joystick, requiring a double-tap to activate super powers. Despite its flaws, Desert Falcon remains a playable shooter that captures the core Zaxxon-style gameplay of the original.
