Desert Falcon is an isometric scrolling shooter set against the backdrop of ancient Egyptian mythology. You take on the role of a falcon on a quest to recover the Pharaoh's scattered treasures lost across the desert sands. The gameplay unfolds from a diagonal, pseudo-3D perspective often compared to Sega's Zaxxon. Your goal is to collect treasures such as golden eggs and gems while navigating a scrolling desert filled with obstacles like pyramids and fire pots. Enemies include vultures, warriors, scarabs, and flying fish. Your falcon is armed with arrows to eliminate them. At the end of each level, you face a giant Sphinx that shoots darts from its eyes. The game features a unique hieroglyph system: by landing and hopping over three hieroglyphs, you unlock temporary super powers such as invincibility, teleportation, or an air bomb.

Atari 2600

Released by Atari Corporation in 1988, the Atari 2600 version of Desert Falcon was programmed by Bob Polaro. The 2600 port features four skill levels: Novice, Standard, Advanced, and Expert. Players begin with five lives. Since the 2600 joystick has only one button, activating super powers requires a double-tap of the fire button. The game includes the end-of-level Sphinx boss, an impressive feat for the 2600 hardware. Critics have noted flaws: the isometric perspective makes altitude judgment difficult, control feels sluggish, and the action occupies only a fraction of the screen. While the 7800 version features superior graphics, the 2600 version remains a playable curiosity that captures the core gameplay of the original.
