Blinkys Scary School

ZX Spectrum

Blinky's Scary School is a platform adventure game where you play as Blinky, a friendly ghost who must rid his school of hazards left by ghost-busters. The gameplay follows a collect-em-up style similar to Dizzy and Pyjamarama. Blinky must navigate flick-screen levels filled with platforms, collecting the right objects to cast spells in a cauldron. Once spells are cast, Blinky must assemble an underwater diving suit. Enemies include spiders, mice, and particularly troublesome jumping frogs. The game features a sense of humour, with many ways to die ensuring replayability. It was the first of Blinky's two outings, followed by Titanic Blinky.

ZX Spectrum

Released in 1990 by Zeppelin Games for 48K and 128K models. The Spectrum version features bright, colourful graphics with well-animated sprites, and Blinky himself is described as "the world's most adorable looking ghost." The 128K version includes AY music, while the 48K version relies on beeper sound. The main criticism is the "slippery floor" physics: Blinky suffers from exaggerated inertia, causing him to skid off tiny platforms and fall into spikes. Sinclair User gave 59%, calling it "too difficult" due to ferocious enemies and Blinky's inability to stand still when you want him to. The game uses a flick-screen (non-scrolling) level structure. For fans of Dizzy-style adventures, it remains a charming if frustrating title.
