Line of Fire

ZX Spectrum

Line of Fire is a first-person light gun shooter developed by Sega and released in arcades in 1989. You play as a member of a two-man commando unit who has seized a prototype machine gun called the Rapier and must escape from a terrorist facility . The game features eight stages set in diverse locations: an enemy camp, jungle, rocky canyon, desert, ruined city, and a final flight back to base. You switch vehicles across levels including a jeep, speedboat, and plane. Enemies include soldiers, helicopters, jets, tanks, and snipers. The game supports two-player simultaneous cooperative play. Ammunition includes machine gun bullets, grenades, and a screen-clearing missile.

ZX Spectrum

Released in 1990 by U.S. Gold, developed by Creative Materials Ltd . No light gun support: you move a crosshair using joystick or keyboard. The ZX Spectrum version was praised by Computer & Video Games for its pace, receiving 85% alongside the Amiga version . The graphics have their moments: backgrounds and sprites are well drawn, and the 3D effects on some levels are effective — until an enemy gets too close and turns into a blocky mess . However, the horizontal-scrolling levels suffer from choppy scrolling, with detailed scenery making it hard to spot targets . Your health drains quickly, but you can shoot Red Cross crates to restore energy and pick up bombs to reload grenades . The game is a pure shoot-'em-up on rails — no puzzles, just non-stop action. The 128K version offers enhanced AY music. Critical reception was mixed: playable and fast, but visually disappointing due to monochrome sprites and jerky scrolling, with limited lasting appeal .
