Yogi's Great Escape is a platform game based on the 1987 television film of the same name . Jellystone Park is facing closure, and all animals are to be moved to a zoo . Unwilling to end his days in captivity, Yogi decides to escape to New York City . You guide Yogi through six horizontally scrolling levels: Jellystone, the forest, the Wild West, Mumbo Jumbo swamp, a funfair, and New York . Levels must be completed within a strict time limit; if the timer runs out, Ranger Smith catches Yogi . Yogi can only walk left or right and jump; touching any enemy or falling into a pit costs a life . Collectible picnic baskets and toffee apples add points . The final level switches to controlling a hot air balloon through the skyscrapers of New York .
ZX Spectrum
Released in 1990 by Hi-Tec Software at a budget price of £2.99 on cassette, developed by Dave Thompson, Ken Jarvis, and Richard Morton . Supports Kempston joystick, Sinclair joystick, or keyboard controls . Sinclair User magazine (Issue 100, June 1990) named it Cheapy of the Month with an overall score of 84% (Graphics 85%, Playability 86%), praising the superb collision detection and Yogi's ability to change direction mid-air . However, the monochrome colour scheme makes some enemies (like snakes) difficult to see . Losing all three lives sends you back to the first level, which critics found frustrating given the high difficulty of later stages . Sound is minimal, consisting of “only some wonky bleeps and boops” . Crash magazine gave 79% .
