Rebel

ZX Spectrum

Rebel is a futuristic action-puzzle game where you control THX2240, a plantation worker who has escaped the tyranny of an "agri-dustrial" combine by stealing a one-person Crowd Control Vehicle (CCV), a small tank . Your mission is to navigate through 10 heavily guarded compounds to reach freedom . Each level requires you to collect solar reflectors and position them strategically to redirect a powerful solar beam from its generator to the sealed exit tunnel, blasting it open to progress . Viewed from above with smooth four-way scrolling, the game features destructible scenery and enemies including helicopters, bombers, and indestructible patrol tanks . Place reflectors incorrectly and the misfired laser costs you a life .

ZX Spectrum

Released in 1987 by Virgin Games, developed by the Gang of Five (known for Dan Dare), and programmed by Linc Tomlin with graphics by Martin Wheeler . Sinclair User magazine praised its beautiful graphics and smooth controls, noting that strategic planning is essential because the enemies are unpredictable—some follow fixed patterns while others roam freely . The puzzle design involves finding the correct placement points for reflectors, which is challenging but not overly difficult . The game was re-released by Mastertronic and Dro Soft, and also supported the 128K model with improved AY sound . A unique blend of arcade action and brain-teasing puzzles, requiring you to "use your nut" to succeed .
