Nonterraqueous

ZX Spectrum

Nonterraqueous is an arcade adventure developed by Stephen N. Curtis and published by Mastertronic in 1985 . Set on a remote planet ruled by an evil computer that uses the population as chess pawns, you control a "seeker" robot built to destroy the computer's base hidden inside a giant mountain . The maze consists of 42 horizontal levels split into three sections, with over 1,000 screens to explore . Your "psyche" level depletes upon enemy contact . Photon thrusters cause instant death . Swap stations toggle between armed mode (you can fire) and defenseless mode (immune to acid) . Some psyche recharge stations are decayed and kill you instantly .

ZX Spectrum

Released in 1986 for the Spectrum 48K . The title screen spells the game's name with a 'V' instead of a 'U' . Bombs are detonated with a key press—dropping a bomb with an enemy underneath kills you . To progress, you must find bomb fuel to activate a rocket at the bottom of the central shaft, catapulting you past the deadly gas room to reach higher levels . The game requires extensive manual mapping on graph paper . Crash magazine reviewed the game in issue #22 (November 1985), awarding 74% . The Spectrum version features a split-screen interface with gameplay above and status panels below displaying psyche level, bombs, and current level . The game's three sequels were never released for the Spectrum .
