Real Bout Fatal Fury is a 1995 fighting game developed and published by SNK for the Neo Geo. It is the fifth mainline Fatal Fury installment. The game introduces the "Out of Bounds" system where ringouts are possible by knocking opponents off the screen's edge. The fighting system simplifies the three-plane system into two planes, with characters able to sidestep between foreground and background. The roster includes Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, Joe Higashi, and Mai Shiranui, alongside newcomers like Franco Bash and Bob Wilson. A key feature is using environment objects within stages as part of combat.

Sega Saturn

Real Bout Fatal Fury was released for the Sega Saturn exclusively in Japan on September 20, 1996. A critical aspect of this port is that it requires the SNK 1MB RAM cartridge to function properly. This expansion cartridge plugs into the Saturn's memory slot and provides additional RAM, allowing the port to retain the fluid sprite animations and smooth gameplay of the Neo Geo original. Without this RAM cart, the game simply will not run. The Saturn version delivers a faithful conversion of the arcade experience, with accurate controls and responsive combat that SNK fighters were known for. While the game was later compiled in Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 2 for PlayStation 2 in 2007, the original Saturn port remains a sought-after collector's item. For fighting game enthusiasts and Saturn owners, Real Bout Fatal Fury represents an essential piece of SNK's legacy, offering deep mechanics, memorable characters, and the challenge of mastering its unique ringout system.
