Linkle Liver Story is an action role-playing game developed by Nextech and published by Sega, released exclusively in Japan in 1996 . Set on the fairy-tale planet of Mamuuna, a world inhabited by anthropomorphic animal-people, the story begins when the "Mother Flower" – the source of all new life – is kidnapped by dark forces . You play as Kittchu, a reluctant young fox-eared hero, who is accompanied by her cheerful companion, Puchimuku, a round pink seed-pod who insists he is not a pig . The duo travels via a tornado wind across continents to retrieve the Mother Flower and restore order to the land. The gameplay is viewed from an isometric perspective and is reminiscent of the Zelda series, featuring hack-and-slash combat, puzzles, and an overworld map connecting various stages .

Sega Saturn

Never officially localized, this 1996 release (March 15) gained a cult import following for its playable nature despite the language barrier . The game's standout feature is its unique weapon system: you must find elemental seeds and use water droplets dropped by enemies to grow them into new weapons, offering over 120 variations based on elemental affinities (Seasons) and weapon traits (Reach, Damage, Speed) . The visuals utilize gorgeous, detailed 2D sprites that are considered some of the Saturn's best for 2D gaming, though the zoomed-in perspective often leads to off-screen enemy attacks . Critical reception praises the charming atmosphere, soundtrack, and ambitious crafting, but critics note issues with floaty controls, imprecise hit detection, and frequent loading times that interrupt the pacing . It is often viewed as a spiritual successor to the Genesis game Crusader of Centy, though generally considered a slightly flawed but charming experience for retro RPG fans .
