Alone in the Dark 2 is a survival horror game and the sequel to the genre-defining 1992 original. Set in Christmas 1924, three months after the first game, you return as supernatural investigator Edward Carnby. His partner has been murdered while investigating the kidnapping of a young girl named Grace Saunders, and the trail leads to a gangster's mansion called Hell's Kitchen. The gameplay follows the classic template: third-person perspective with fixed camera angles, pre-rendered backgrounds, and 3D polygonal character models. You explore the mansion, gardens, and a hidden pirate ship, solving puzzles and battling enemies. Ammunition is scarce, forcing conservation. The horror theme is de-emphasised, with foes being ghost pirates and possessed gangsters.

This version features fully textured polygonal character models and new FMV cutscenes added for the console release . The soundtrack was uniquely updated with a synthesized orchestral score using more instruments than other versions . The Saturn port received generally negative reviews: Electronic Gaming Monthly gave it 4.25/10, citing difficult aiming, poor graphics, and camera angles that change too frequently . GamePro remarked that even though the original inspired Resident Evil, the sequel fails to measure up, with quirky controls and less appealing gameplay .
