Hattrick Hero S is a 2D side-scrolling arcade soccer game developed and published by Taito, released exclusively in Japan for the Sega Saturn on December 8, 1995. The game is a port of the arcade title Hat Trick Hero '95 (known in Europe as Taito Power Goal), which ran on Taito's F3 Package System hardware. It belongs to a series that began with Hat Trick Hero '93 and serves as a counterpart to SNK's Super Sidekicks franchise. You can choose from 42 licensed national teams categorized into four groups: Europe A, Europe B, South America/Asia, and America/Africa. Game modes include friendly matches, championship tournaments, a world league, and penalty shootouts. Each team features an "Ace" player marked above his head. A unique units system begins each match with 20 points, which can be spent on special actions like Super Shoots and Hyper Shoots.
Sega Saturn
This Saturn version supports 1 to 4 players locally. The game uses digitized actors for player sprites and features a side-scrolling perspective. New features include an overhead view during throw-ins. After winning two games, your team transforms into a customizable "Personal Team" where you can edit uniform colors for jersey, pants, and socks. After winning six games, you can customize the Ace striker's name. The unplayable "MAX" team returns as the final boss. A sequel, Super Football Champ, was released in 1996 featuring polygonal 3D graphics. This Japan-exclusive soccer title remains a solid entry in Taito's arcade sports library.
