Bases Loaded '96: Double Header is a baseball simulation developed and published by Jaleco. Known in Japan as Moero!! Pro Yakyuu '95: Double Header, it is the final game in the long-running Bases Loaded series and the only one developed internally by Jaleco after Tose developed the previous seven installments. The game is licensed by the MLBPA and features real MLB players with stats from the 1995 season, but teams are represented only by their city names. Game modes include Exhibition, Regular Season (13, 26, 52, or 162 games), and Championship mode (best-of-3, 5, or 7). Players can trade athletes and choose from seven real MLB ballparks plus one original stadium. Batting uses a behind-the-batter view with swing timing, while pitching is simplified to aiming pitch location.
Sega Saturn
Released in Japan on November 22, 1995 and North America in March 1996, this Saturn version supports 1-2 players with cooperative play and uses the memory card for saving season progress. Automatic fielding can be turned on or off. The Saturn port was developed alongside the PlayStation version with identical game modes. Critical reception was negative: Next Generation gave one out of five stars, stating that "Jaleco's long-running baseball series ran out of steam long ago, and this totally disappointing 32-bit incarnation is a perfect reason to let it die." Reviewers criticized the inadequate organ music and outdated graphics that failed to utilize the Saturn's capabilities. This title marked the end of the Bases Loaded franchise.
