Lunar: The Silver Star is a role-playing game developed by Game Arts and Studio Alex. The story centers on Alex, a young boy from the village of Burg who dreams of becoming a hero like his idol, Dragonmaster Dyne. He is accompanied by Luna, an orphan girl with a mysterious magical singing voice, and Nall, a flying cat-like creature who can speak. When Alex and his friend Ramus explore a nearby cave on a treasure hunt, they discover an ancient white dragon who reveals that Alex has been chosen to become the next Dragonmaster. To fulfill his destiny, Alex must journey across the world of Lunar, gather the four dragon diamonds, and confront the rising evil of the Magic Emperor Ghaleon. Gameplay features traditional top-down exploration, turn-based battles, and puzzle-solving across towns, fields, and dungeons.
Sega Mega CD
Released in Japan on June 26, 1992, and in North America on December 1, 1993 by Working Designs. The game was designed as a "different kind of RPG" focused on storytelling and animation, with a fantasy world inspired by classic mythology. Animator Toshiyuki Kubooka oversaw the animated sequences, and novelist Kei Shigema wrote the script. The soundtrack was composed by Noriyuki Iwadare, Hiroshi Fujioka, Isao Mizoguchi, and Yoshiaki Kubodera. The North American localization by Working Designs featured rewritten dialogue with pop culture references, rebalanced difficulty, and an English vocal theme song. Lunar became the best-selling Mega CD title in Japan and the second best-selling worldwide behind Sonic CD. Saving requires either the console's internal memory or a CD BackUp RAM Cartridge.
