Motocross Championship is a racing game developed by Artech Studios and published by Sega, based on the sport of motocross. Players race from a perspective behind the biker across twelve indoor and outdoor tracks filled with obstacles such as jumps and mud puddles. Each race features eleven computer-controlled opponents for a total of twelve competitors over four laps. Players choose from three bike classes (125cc, 250cc, and Super Bike) and can perform stunts including wheelies and power salutes for cash bonuses. The biker can punch or kick other riders while passing, and ramming an opponent's wheel can cause crashes. Game modes include Practice Mode for single races and Season Mode comprising 36 races across all tracks, using a password system. Two-player split-screen multiplayer is available.
Sega 32X
Released in North America in January 1995, this is the only dirtbike racing game for the 32X. The action uses the 32X's hardware bitmap scaling to present a 3D graphical effect from behind the bike. Critical reception was overwhelmingly negative: IGN called it "one of the worst 16-bit games I've ever played," criticizing the pixelated sprite scaling, excessive pop-in where track sections fail to render in time, narrow courses, and a crunchy metal soundtrack described as "fingernails on a chalkboard." The Los Angeles Times noted the game was "Road Rash with hills" but lacking entertainment value due to unresponsive controls. Most agree Motocross Championship is among the 32X's weakest titles—a game so flawed that collectors are advised to avoid it entirely.
