NBA ShootOut (known as Total NBA '96 in Europe and Japan) is a basketball simulation video game developed by SCE Studios Soho and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation in 1996. It was the first internally developed sports title by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and the debut entry in the NBA ShootOut series. The game features all 29 NBA teams with authentic rosters from the 1995–96 season, including over 300 real players. The gameplay employs polygon-generated player models with motion-captured animations for realistic dribbling, passing, shooting, and dunking. Players can compete in Exhibition, Season, and Playoffs modes, with the ability to trade players and save progress to a memory card. The game supports up to eight players via the Multi Tap accessory and features in-game commentary. Options include adjustable quarter lengths, three difficulty levels, and both Simulation and Arcade settings.

Released in Europe on March 20, 1996, and in North America on March 28, 1996, the PlayStation version was well received by critics. Official UK PlayStation Magazine awarded it 9/10, praising the motion capture and playability. GamePro gave the game a strong recommendation, noting its realistic features, beautiful polygonal graphics, and fluid animation. Electronic Gaming Monthly were divided, both agreeing the graphics were impressive, but one argued for more realism while the other asserted solid gameplay. Next Generation shared enthusiasm for the graphics but noted prominent slowdown at times. The game was a major hit in Europe and moderately successful in North America. Some critics also praised the in-game commentary, which referred to players by their nicknames, and the variety of camera angles.
