Double Dragon II: The Revenge is a side-scrolling beat 'em up and the sequel to the arcade classic. Following the murder of Marian by the Black Warriors, brothers Billy and Jimmy Lee set out for revenge. The arcade original replaced punch/kick buttons with a directional-based attack system (Left Attack/Right Attack), adding moves like the Hurricane Kick. The game features four missions: a heliport, a lumber storehouse, a farm, and the gang's hideout. Weapons include shovels, knives, whips, and grenades. After defeating the final boss, players face a clone of their own character. Supports two-player co-op.

Released exclusively in Japan on March 12, 1993 by Naxat Soft, developed by KID on Super CD-ROM² format . This version is based on the NES adaptation rather than the arcade original, featuring the same nine-stage structure with animated, fully voiced cutscenes . Graphics are completely redrawn with more realistic proportions—less cartoony than the NES version . The soundtrack consists entirely of new CD-DA music with an early 90's rap style replacing the classic NES score . Enemies are mixed on screen (unlike the NES) and weapons from the arcade (shovel, iron ball) are included . Architecturally, the fight on the moving bulldozer is removed, but Willy appears as a boss, and the Shadow Master must be fought regardless of difficulty . The game features three endings, with the full ending requiring completion on the hardest difficulty . Friendly fire can be disabled, and players can increase lives and continues up to five each via options menu . Considered by some the definitive version for its smooth controls and cinematic presentation, though fans remain divided on whether it surpasses the NES original .
