Castlevania - Rondo of Blood

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is a gothic horror action-platform game set in the year 1792. The dark priest Shaft has resurrected the immortal vampire Dracula and kidnapped several young women, including Annette, the beloved of vampire hunter Richter Belmont . You control Richter, heir to the legendary "Vampire Killer" whip, across nine action-packed stages with multiple branching paths and four alternate routes . Your main weapon is the whip, supplemented by six classic sub-weapons: axe, dagger, holy water, bible, pocket watch, and cross . The game introduces the "Item Crash" mechanic, a devastating super attack consuming multiple hearts . Along the way, you can rescue four maidens; one of them, Maria Renard, becomes a fully playable character with unique abilities including double jumping, sliding, and animal-based attacks .

PC Engine

Released exclusively in Japan on October 29, 1993, for the PC Engine Super CD-ROM² System, this entry was directed by Toru Hagihara . The game fully utilized CD-ROM technology with redbook audio for a high-quality orchestral soundtrack composed by Akira Souji, Keizo Nakamura, Tomoko Sano, and Mikio Saito . It also featured full-screen hand-drawn anime-style cutscenes, a first for the series, advancing the plot between stages . The 8-bit PC Engine console with its 16-bit graphics chip delivered detailed sprite work and smooth animations . The game never received an original Western release, making it a highly sought-after import title for years . It was later remade for the Super Nintendo as Castlevania: Dracula X and for the PSP as Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, with the original finally reaching international audiences via Virtual Console in 2010 .
