Bomberman '94 is an action-maze game and a landmark entry in Hudson Soft's series. The story takes place on Planet Bomber, protected by five spirits and their magical Spirit Pictures. The evil villain Bagular invades, destroys the Spirit Pictures, and splits the planet into five pieces. You control White Bomberman on a quest to recover the scattered tablets and restore the planet. The single-player campaign spans six areas: a jungle, a volcano, a sea, a castle, a frozen tundra, and Bagular's comet. Your goal is to destroy enemy core units to obtain Spirit Picture pieces. This game introduces Louies (kangaroo-like creatures inside eggs) that grant special abilities like jumping, dashing, kicking bombs, or kicking blocks. Up to five players can compete simultaneously in battle mode featuring team battles, nine selectable avatars with unique AI behaviors, and various arena gimmicks.
PC Engine
Released exclusively in Japan on December 10, 1993, Bomberman '94 was the final HuCard title published by Hudson Soft for the PC Engine. The game pushes the 8-bit hardware with the most detailed visuals of any PC Engine Bomberman entry, featuring rich floor textures, animated backgrounds including ripple effects in ocean areas and falling snow, and large well-animated bosses. The soundtrack by Jun Chikuma delivers catchy tunes ranking among the series' best. The single-player campaign allows levels to be played in any order within each area. This is the first console Bomberman to feature team battles and the modern White Bomberman design. Never officially released outside Japan, the game became one of the most imported PC Engine titles ever made.
