Dark Arms: Beast Buster 1999 is an action role-playing game and a spin-off of SNK's arcade shooter Beast Busters. Set in a gothic fantasy world, you play as a nameless protagonist who makes a pact with Caso, the Master of the Dark Realm, to gain power and search for legendary bio-weapons known as Dark Arms. The core gameplay involves exploring four dungeons with a day/night cycle affecting enemy spawns, using the "Catcher" weapon to collect souls from defeated monsters. These souls are used as "food" to evolve weapons, while items called "oums" and seeds found in the world craft new ones. The game features turn-based combat where Energy Points are managed for special attacks, and the unique weapon evolution system allows for over 30 obtainable weapons with different elemental properties.

Released in October 1999 in Japan and November 1999 in North America and Europe, Dark Arms was developed by Noise Factory, the team behind SNK Gals' Fighters. The game was praised for its innovative weapon crafting and evolution system, vibrant sprites, and spooky soundtrack enhancing the gothic atmosphere. However, critics noted flaws: the game is very short with only four small areas, and is too easy, as respawning monsters provide endless food to evolve weapons quickly. IGN gave it a 5/10, citing weak story and boring enemies, though acknowledging interesting ideas. The game includes a link cable mode for two-player deathmatches, but the system's poor sales made it rarely experienced. Despite mixed reception, Dark Arms is now considered a cult classic and was re-released as part of Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol. 1 in 2021.
