Disney's Aladdin is a side-scrolling platformer based on the 1992 animated film. You control Aladdin through iconic locations like the streets of Agrabah, the Cave of Wonders, and Jafar’s palace. The gameplay blends agile platforming with combat; Aladdin can slash enemies with his scimitar or stun them from a distance by throwing apples. To survive, you must navigate traps, collect gems to trade with the Peddler for extra lives, and find Genie tokens for bonus rounds. Known for its fluid "Digicel" animation, the game captures the movie's charm with expressive character movements and humorous details, like guards losing their pants.
Master System
Released in 1994, the Master System version was one of the final major releases for the console in Europe and Brazil. Developed by SIMS, it is closely related to the Game Gear port but benefits from a larger viewing area, as it isn't restricted by the handheld's screen cropping. This makes the platforming sections and the iconic "Rug Ride" much more manageable. The graphics are exceptionally clean for an 8-bit system, featuring a bright palette and detailed character sprites that capture the spirit of the film. While it lacks the fluid "Digicel" animation of the 16-bit versions, it compensates with tight controls and well-balanced difficulty. It is often cited as one of the best-looking games on the platform, showcasing the full potential of the aging Sega hardware.
