Mortal Kombat II is the legendary sequel that expanded the roster, the lore, and the gore to new heights. Following the defeat of Shang Tsung, the sorcerer lures Earthrealm warriors to Outworld for a second tournament hosted by Emperor Shao Kahn. The gameplay introduces new fighters like Kitana, Mileena, and Baraka, while refining combat with faster movement and multiple "Fatality" moves for every character. Beyond the blood, the game introduced "Babality" and "Friendship" moves, adding dark humor to the gritty atmosphere. With its iconic digitized graphics and secret challengers, it solidified itself as one of the most influential fighting games in history.

Master System

Released in 1994, the Master System version of Mortal Kombat II is an impressive 8-bit conversion that pushed the aging hardware to its absolute limits. Primarily released in Europe and Brazil, it features a roster of 8 fighters, successfully translating the large digitized characters into smaller, vibrant sprites. Despite the reduced resolution, the backgrounds remain recognizable, and the game maintains a surprisingly fast pace. It includes unique animations for special moves and a selection of Fatalities, which was a significant achievement for the console's memory capacity. While it lacks the voice samples and complex background layers of the Mega Drive version, the tight gameplay and responsive controls made it one of the best fighting games available on the platform late in its lifecycle.
