The Simpsons: Bart vs. the World is a 2D side-scrolling platformer based on the popular animated television series. The story follows Bart Simpson, who wins a contest on the Krusty the Clown Show for a round-the-world scavenger hunt. However, the contest has been rigged by Mr. Burns' assistant Smithers, allowing Burns to send his agents to eliminate the Simpsons. Bart must travel through four major areas—China, the North Pole, Egypt, and Hollywood—each with multiple stages. He can collect firecracker balls for defense and Squishees to restore health, and by grabbing a cape, Bart becomes Bartman, allowing limited flight. Each area culminates in a boss fight against a member of the Burns clan. Mini-games such as matching-card puzzles and trivia appear throughout.
Master System
Released in Europe in May 1993, this 8-bit version was developed by Arc Developments and published by Flying Edge. The Master System port is notable for stripping out the storyline sequences found in other versions, resulting in a bare-bones presentation. The soundtrack was reduced to just two short, repetitive tunes, and controls were criticized as sluggish and occasionally imprecise. The game retains the core platforming and scavenger hunt mechanics, but technical compromises were significant. While it received mixed reviews—some praising the improved challenge over previous Simpsons titles—others found the frustration outweighed the fun. Despite its flaws, the game stands as a curiosity for Master System collectors and Simpsons fans.
