Tom and Jerry: The Movie is a 2D side-scrolling platformer developed by SIMS and published by Sega in 1992 for the Master System. Despite sharing its name with the 1992 animated film, the game's content is not directly related to it. Players take on the role of Tom, who must chase Jerry through a series of long, horizontally scrolling stages. The core objective is to pursue the mouse through environments including a house, garden, and countryside, finally cornering and catching him at the end of the level. Jerry constantly stays ahead of the player, occasionally dropping bombs and laying mines that Tom must jump over or avoid. The game requires Tom to climb platforms, jump gaps, and navigate obstacles, with an emphasis on slapstick humor complete with humorous animations. An interesting mechanic allows skilled players to catch Jerry before the end of a level.

Master System

The Master System version features six varied stages, with colorful and detailed graphics praised for their fidelity to the source material. The game garnered a mixed critical reception. Sega Force gave it 77%, applauding its looks, humour, and playability, though noting controls were somewhat sluggish and the game quite easy. Retrospective opinions are divided: some critics laud the game's charm and enjoyable challenge, while others criticize the awkward control scheme as unintuitive and clunky. Level design has also been described as repetitive, and the overall experience, while fun, is extremely short, with most players able to complete it in under an hour. Despite its flaws, the game remains a charming, if brief, platformer that successfully captures the spirit of the classic cartoon rivalry.
