Smash T.V. is a twin-stick shooter set in 1999, where contestants compete on the world's most violent game show fighting through deadly arenas packed with killer robots and mindless beasts. Armed with various weapons, destroy everything in sight while grabbing cash and fabulous prizes including toasters, cars, and luxury holidays. Navigate series of unique themed arenas filled with hordes of enemies, collect power-ups to strengthen your arsenal, and face increasingly challenging bosses. Created by Eugene Jarvis, designer of Robotron: 2084, Smash T.V. modernizes the twin-stick formula with a satirical futuristic setting and unrelenting arcade action that demands precise twin-stick controls and split-second reflexes.
Master System
Developed by Probe Entertainment Limited and published by Flying Edge in 1992, Super Smash T.V. on Master System struggles with significant technical compromises. The single-button fire system cripples the arcade's dual-joystick design, resulting in awkward controls that frustrate players accustomed to the original. Graphics are crude and slow-moving, featuring enlarged sprites that lack the arcade's visual detail and animation. Four stages with reduced screen space compress the action uncomfortably, limiting movement and tactical maneuvering. Two-player simultaneous gameplay remains available. While featuring some arcade elements like power-up weapons, the Master System conversion fails to capture the frenetic intensity of the original, representing a poor adaptation that demonstrates the system's fundamental unsuitability for this type of action game.
