Time Soldier

Time Soldier is a top-down run-and-gun shooter originally developed by SNK and Alpha Denshi for arcades in 1987, known in Japan as Battle Field. Set in a distant future, the evil space dictator Gylend has conquered Earth, prompting seven commandos to infiltrate his complex. Five are captured and scattered across different time zones: the Primitive Age, Ancient Rome, Medieval Japan, a World War battleground, and a Future era. You control the remaining survivors—Yohan and Ben—taking turns to battle through five levels, rescuing captured comrades, and collecting weapon upgrades like Tri-Shoot, Missiles, and Lasers dropped by enemies. Each level ends with a guardian boss, and teleportation gates allow you to jump between eras.

Master System

Released in May 1989 by Sega, developed by Alpha Denshi, with publishing in the US by Tonka. This version supports two-player simultaneous co-operative play and includes FM sound unit compatibility for enhanced audio. A major difference from the arcade is the control scheme: the rotary joystick is replaced with the standard D-Pad, which works surprisingly well despite the arcade's reliance on 360-degree aiming. Continues are limited to three per player, unlike the arcade's unlimited continues. The game suffers from PAL slowdown on European systems. Popular Computing Weekly rated it 89%, calling it one of the better Master System titles. Graphics remain faithful to the arcade with large bosses, though with some flicker and slower movement.
