My Hero

My Hero is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by Coreland and published by Sega for the Master System in 1986 . Known as Seishun Scandal in Japan, the game follows a muscular hero (named Steven in the arcade flyer) on a mission to rescue his girlfriend Remy from a street gang . The gameplay involves fighting through hordes of enemies using punches, crouching kicks, and a highly effective jump kick . Each stage consists of brawling sections, platforming segments with hazards, and a boss battle against the gang leader who kidnapped the heroine . Defeating the boss leads to a brief reunion before the girlfriend is kidnapped again, sending the hero into the next stage .

Master System

This version was released in North America in September 1986 and in Europe in August 1987 . It holds a distinction as one of the few titles released on the secondary Sega Card format for the Master System . Due to the technical limitations of the Sega Card, the port is significantly downgraded from the arcade original . The three distinct arcade stages—a contemporary city, a Japanese dojo, and a futuristic space setting—are reduced to a single, repeating urban environment with color palette swaps . The gameplay is notoriously unforgiving; outside of boss fights, a single hit from an enemy results in death , and the controls are often described as laggy and unresponsive . Despite its punishing difficulty and the visual compromises, the game has gained a cult following for its fast, frenetic action and catchy music .
