Choplifter is a horizontally scrolling shooter where you pilot a combat helicopter on a daring rescue mission behind enemy lines. You must free hostages held in enemy barracks and transport them safely to the friendly base. The helicopter can face three directions: left, right, or forward toward the player. Shoot a building to release hostages, then land to let them board. The chopper carries a maximum of passengers, requiring multiple trips per level. Enemy tanks attack on the ground, while jet fighters and other aircraft harass you from above. You must protect hostages from enemy fire and avoid landing on them.

Master System

Released in September 1986 as a North American and European launch title for the Master System . Unlike earlier home computer versions, this is a port of Sega's 1985 arcade remake rather than the original Apple II game . It features six distinct rounds with varied environments including desert, sea with ships to land on, and claustrophobic caves with stalactites to avoid . A unique control scheme uses the second button to rotate the helicopter's facing, allowing bombs to be dropped on foreground enemies like tanks . The game requires rescuing at least 40 out of 64 hostages per level to advance . The built-in FM sound chip enhances the three music tracks on Japanese and Brazilian consoles . Some sprite flicker occurs during intense action due to hardware limitations, and the difficulty spikes considerably on later levels, particularly the cave stages .
