Astro Warrior is a vertically scrolling shoot 'em up developed and published by Sega for the Master System in 1986. Set in space, the story follows the pilot of the Astoro Raider, a warrior entrusted by the Solar System Allied Forces to defeat the Devil Star Imperial Forces, who have invaded the Alpha Kentowry system. The ultimate goal is to destroy their mother ship. The gameplay is a classic top-down shooter that takes place across three levels, each with unique enemy patterns and a boss at the end. Power-ups are crucial for survival and can be collected by shooting targets on the ground, which release a cargo ship. These upgrades include increased speed, a more powerful laser, and options that orbit the ship. If the player dies, all power-ups are lost. The three bosses are named Zanoni, Nebiros, and Belzebul.

Master System

Originally released in Japan on December 14, 1986, followed by North America in December 1986 and Europe in October 1987. The game is especially notable for its history as a pack-in title, bundled with the Master System in Europe and appearing on multi-carts, which made it many players' first experience with the console. It received a positive contemporary reception, with critics praising the graphics, weapon system, and the large number of enemies on screen. Retrospective reviews have been more mixed; while it's praised for its smooth controls and colorful graphics, it has been criticized for being a generic, derivative shooter that is incredibly short, with the same three levels repeating infinitely. The lack of variety and a punishing power-up system were also common points of criticism. In Brazil, Tec Toy released a localized version in 1996 titled Sapo Xulé: SOS Lagoa Poluída.
