Mega Man

Game Gear

Mega Man is an action-platform game developed by Freestyle and published by U.S. Gold for the Sega Game Gear in October 1995 . It is a spin-off of Capcom's series and the only original Mega Man game developed for a Sega console . The story follows Mega Man fighting against Dr. Wily, who controls six Robot Masters . The game features levels and bosses from Mega Man 4 and Mega Man 5 . The initial four Robot Masters are Bright Man, Napalm Man, Star Man, and Stone Man. After defeating them, players face Wave Man and Toad Man in Dr. Cossack's fortress, then Dr. Wily himself . Mega Man can use a charged shot and acquire special weapons from defeated bosses, including the Flash Stopper and Napalm Bomb . However, Wave Man has no weakness in this version . The game includes a hard difficulty mode accessible via password .

Game Gear

Released exclusively in North America, this version is notable for its high-quality, colorful graphics, considered an upgrade over the NES titles . The controls are solid, though slightly unresponsive at times . However, the small Game Gear screen creates "screen crunch," making it difficult to see enemies and platforms below, contributing to the game's difficulty . The game lacks continues, forcing a restart from the title screen upon a game over . It is also very short, with only four main Robot Masters and three in Wily's stages . The soundtrack features decent, nostalgic remixes, though some are criticized as ear-piercing . Despite these issues, the game received positive reviews, with Sega Power giving it 87% and GamePro scoring it 3.75/5 .
