Magic Knight Rayearth 2: Making of Magic Knight is a simulation RPG based on the CLAMP manga and anime, released exclusively in Japan for the Game Gear on August 4, 1995. Unlike the first Game Gear title, which was a traditional RPG, this sequel focuses on training Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu to become the legendary Magic Knights. Set in Cephiro, the three girls from Tokyo must grow stronger to save the land. Gameplay is menu-driven, simulating a "slice-of-life" training regimen. Players select from eight daily commands—like swordsmanship and art—that influence characters' parameters, including strength and elegance. The goal is to achieve the "Magic Knight" profession, but depending on training balance, characters may become swordfighters or magicians. The game spans 50 days with periodic events like fighting or dance competitions.

Developed and published by Sega, this title remains a Japan-exclusive collector's item. The 4-megabit cartridge includes battery backup for saving progress. After completing the main story, a hidden mini-game is unlocked. The game is considered to have high-quality graphics and a polished system, earning positive reception as a character-driven title. For retro collectors and fans of the series, this game offers a unique and rare experience, showcasing a creative departure from traditional RPG mechanics on the Game Gear.
