Dunk Kids is a 2D basketball game developed by I.T.L and published by Sega for the Game Gear, released exclusively in Japan on September 16, 1994. The game focuses on two-on-two basketball played on a half-court, where the goal is simply to outscore the opponent within a three-minute time limit. Players can choose from eight teams, each with different stats in defense, speed, and shooting. Shots from inside the key are worth one point, while shots from outside are worth two. Scoring from directly under the basket can trigger special dunk animations. The game features a Tournament Mode where the player must defeat three local Japanese teams and then proceed to beat other teams worldwide, as well as a Free Play mode. It supports two-player play via the Gear-to-Gear Cable.

Game Gear

This Japan-exclusive title is considered a rare and interesting artifact from the Game Gear's library. The gameplay is simple and fast-paced, with a focus on arcade-style fun rather than simulation. The presentation is often praised for its colorful and detailed sprite work, with each team having its own stage with unique visual flair. A notable feature is the variety of player sprites, which includes different skin tones and a female character, adding a touch of diversity. However, some players have noted that the shooting mechanic can feel unresponsive and lacks clear feedback, and the lack of an in-game tutorial makes the dribbling mechanic initially obscure. While the game offers a fun and charming experience for casual play, its Japan-exclusive release and specific control quirks mean it remains a niche title for collectors and those willing to explore the Game Gear's less-known sports games.
