Snow Bros. is a fixed-screen action-platformer originally developed by Toaplan for arcades in 1990. You control snowmen Nick and Tom—human princes cursed by the evil King Scorch—as they ascend a fortress to rescue the princesses . Gameplay involves throwing snow at enemies; after sufficient hits, they freeze into giant snowballs that can be kicked into other foes, triggering chain reactions . Power-ups include red (speed), blue (attack power), yellow (shot range), and green (invincibility). Boss fights occur every ten floors . A timer mechanic summons an invincible Pumpkin Ghost if players linger too long .

Game Boy

Developed by Toaplan and published by Capcom in 1991, this portable version is single-player only unlike the arcade original . Technically, the game runs slower than its arcade counterpart, with fewer on-screen enemies—rarely exceeding five—making it generally easier . Character movement feels "sluggish," with jump physics requiring adjustment since players cannot descend through platforms . Controls respond adequately but demand button-mashing to freeze enemies quickly before they break free . Snow Bros. includes exclusive content: ten bonus stages (levels 50-60) beyond the standard 50, culminating in an exclusive final boss—a stationary sun that shoots fireballs . A password system saves progress, awarding codes upon clearing boss floors or running out of lives . The Game Boy version was released in North America and Europe only, never in Japan . Retrospective reception praises the addictive core gameplay but notes the repetitive level design and control stiffness . The music and sound effects are functional but unremarkable compared to the arcade original's richer audio .
