Penguin Land is a puzzle-platform game developed and published by Sega for the Master System in 1987. It follows Penguin Mission Commander Overbite, who must guide three lost eggs down to the bottom of a frigid cavern to his waiting spaceship crew. The object of each level is to push and drop an egg through a vertically scrolling cavern, breaking ice blocks to create a path while ensuring the egg doesn't fall more than three blocks. The player can melt ice blocks, push rocks, and navigate hazards including polar bear-like Gangows and Cameel birds. A variety of block types add strategic depth. The game features 50 stages and includes a built-in level editor that can save custom levels.

Game Boy

This handheld version was released in Japan on March 21, 1990, developed by Atelier Double and published by Pony Canyon. The Game Boy port features 25 stages, half of the Master System original, though players can select any stage rather than completing them in order. Several enemies were removed and the ending scenes differ. Due to the smaller screen, the game uses side-scrolling rather than displaying the full playfield width. The controls remain simple: one button to jump and another to dig. Critics praised the cute, clear graphics that make excellent use of the system's limited palette, and the option to choose between three different music tracks. The game is considered challenging due to the precise egg-carrying mechanics, but the freedom to select stages makes it more accessible. This title represents one of the few Sega properties to appear on the original Game Boy.
