deSpiria is a first-person adventure RPG set in a post-apocalyptic future. The world of 2070 has been ravaged by the "RX" biochemical weapon, and a powerful organization known as the Church has risen to power in the ruins of Osaka. You play as Allure Valentine, an 18-year-old girl raised by the Church as an undercover agent and assassin. Her mission to eliminate a member of the rival Heretics faction begins when she boards a train, but it derails in a tunnel, leaving her trapped underground. Stranded, she must investigate the strange events surrounding the crash and fight for survival. The gameplay blends first-person exploration with turn-based RPG combat. Navigation is handled via the "Sphere System," a point-and-click interface with a 360-degree viewpoint from pre-rendered CG locations. A distinctive feature is the "Mind Dive" system, allowing Allure to read thoughts and uncover hidden memories. Combat uses a unique "Mind Battle" system: instead of weapons, Allure summons psychic entities called "Minds" to fight for her, each with elemental affinities like Love, Curse, or Death.

Dreamcast

Released exclusively in Japan on September 21, 2000, this Atlus title is a notable curiosity within the Dreamcast library, sharing a spiritual connection to the cult classic PS1 horror game Dark Messiah. The game features pre-rendered 3D backgrounds and striking character designs that create an oppressive, unsettling atmosphere. Despite its ambition and unique mechanics, deSpiria was a commercial failure and remains obscure due to its text-heavy narrative and Japan-only release. This rarity has cemented its reputation as a hidden gem and sought-after collector's piece among Dreamcast enthusiasts.
