Veil of Darkness is a horror-themed action-adventure blending point-and-click exploration with light role-playing elements. You play as a cargo pilot whose plane is shot down by a dark force over a remote valley in the Carpathian mountains. Rescued by a villager named Deirdre, you learn an ancient prophecy: a hero who "descends from the sky on a bird of steel" is destined to destroy Kairn, an immortal vampire lord who has trapped the entire valley in eternal darkness since the 17th century. Gameplay features a fixed isometric perspective with a customizable control panel showing health, inventory weight, and status ailments. The game is non-linear, allowing free exploration. Combat is real-time, with different weapons required for specific enemies: silver swords for ghosts, maces for skeletons, and holy water for vampires.
