World Cup Soccer - Italia '90

DOS

World Cup Soccer: Italia '90 is a football game released as the officially licensed title of the 1990 FIFA World Cup. The game is actually a rebranded version of 1989's World Trophy Soccer, originally developed by Novotrade . Gameplay is presented from a bird's-eye view, but when you enter the penalty area, the perspective switches to a first-person 3D view of the goalmouth, allowing precise shot placement . You can choose from four selectable teams: England, Belgium, Italy, or Spain . Before each match, you can adjust formations and team selections. The ball sticks to the feet of players, with block tackles and sliding tackles available, the latter risking fouls .

DOS

Released in 1990 by Virgin Mastertronic, this version supports CGA and EGA graphics modes . The DOS port preserves the isometric field view that switches to pseudo-3D during goalmouth action . You can choose match duration and difficulty level, with support for up to eight players . No attempts were made to change the tournament setup or teams to match the actual 1990 World Cup . Like other versions, controls can feel sluggish and the 3D shooting section is considered unfair by many players . While graphically bright and featuring large, clearly drawn sprites, the DOS version lacks the distinctive flavour of the best football games of the era . A visually pleasant but ultimately generic football simulation .
