Menace is a horizontally scrolling shoot-'em-up set on the artificial planet Draconia, created by six ruthless dictators to house the most gruesome and harmful life-forms in the universe. You pilot an alien space fighter through six stages, each ending with a massive boss—a living defence mechanism of Draconia. Over sixty enemy types attack from all directions. The ship has shields that deplete upon contact with enemies or walls. Defeated enemies drop tokens; shooting these tokens cycles through available power-ups including lasers, cannons, improved firepower, and the "Outrider" satellite weapon. A digitised voice announces each collected power-up. The game was designed by David Jones and was the debut title from DMA Design, the studio that would later create Lemmings and Grand Theft Auto.
DOS
Released in December 1989 by Psygnosis, published under the Psyclapse label . The DOS version supports CGA and EGA graphics modes, with the EGA option offering more detailed 16-color visuals. Sound is produced through the PC speaker or AdLib sound card; the game lacks the digitised voice samples of the Amiga original. All six stages, the power-up cycling system, and the unique Outrider satellite weapon are preserved. The game runs from a single floppy disk or can be installed to a hard drive. The DOS port sold over 20,000 copies across all platforms .
