Millennium: Return to Earth (also known as Millennium 2.2) is a turn-based strategy game set in the year 2200. A massive asteroid has struck Earth, making it uninhabitable. The only survivors are the crew of Moonbase 1. As commander, your mission is to ensure humanity's survival by exploring the Solar System, colonising planets, mining resources, researching technologies, and terraforming Earth. Mutated humans on Mars will attack your colonies. Gameplay involves resource management via menus, with real-time 3D space combat defending against Martian attacks. Direct predecessor to Deuteros: The Next Millennium.
MS-DOS
Released as Millennium: Return to Earth in 1991 by Paragon Software, published by Electric Dreams. Developed by Software Studios, the DOS version was the first platform developed, available in early 1989 on PC before the Amiga port, though it ultimately launched in 1991. Gameplay is identical to 16-bit versions: manage resources, colonise planets, research technologies, and engage in 3D space combat. Graphics use 16-colour VGA/EGA with mouse and keyboard support. A technical issue: 3D combat can crash in DOSBox 0.60+; DOSBox 0.58 runs it near-perfectly. Sound limited to PC speaker and basic Ad Lib. A challenging, unforgiving strategy classic.
