Questron II is a role-playing game developed by Westwood Associates and published by SSI in 1988. The hero who saved Questron from the evil wizard Mantor is sent back in time by the good wizard Mesron to prevent the creation of the indestructible Evil Book of Magic. Your goal is to defeat the six Mad Sorcerers before they can complete the book. The game spans two continents—Landor and the Realm of Sorcerers—with overhead wilderness exploration, towns with shops and casinos, tombs viewed from overhead, and multi-level dungeons in animated first-person 3D with a minimap feature. Key status values are health, food, and gold. Experience comes primarily from completing quests rather than grinding monsters. Gambling mini-games include Blackjack, Wizard's Squares, and High-Low.

DOS

Released in May 1988 by SSI for DOS, requiring 256KB RAM and supporting CGA, EGA, or Tandy graphics . The DOS version features pretty nice EGA graphics for its time, with a cute character walking animation across the overworld, and nicely pixeled dungeons . The interface uses keyboard commands with a permanent menu for actions including fight, speak, use item, and board ship. The game includes a copy protection system requiring manual lookups when entering towns—correct answers reference monster descriptions in the manual . Towns contain shops, cathedrals, and casinos with gambling games that can generate easy wealth. The dungeons feature an early pseudo-automapping system showing explored areas, though maps reset when leaving. A solid entry-level RPG for DOS owners seeking accessible fantasy adventure, though dated compared to Pool of Radiance and Ultima V released the same year .
