Street Sports Baseball is a sports game that takes baseball out of the stadium and into the neighborhood . Part of Epyx's popular "Street Sports" series, the action takes place on improvised fields like parks, vacant lots, and backyards with makeshift bases . You assemble a team from 16 available boys and girls of the "52nd Street gang", each with unique portraits and different abilities in speed, accuracy, throwing strength, and catching . The game features two different playfields, each with environmental hazards such as mud puddles, tree stumps, and trash cans that affect gameplay . The screen is divided into three sections: an upper information display showing score and stats, an isometric view of the action at lower left, and a radar-style overhead view of the entire field at lower right . A game lasts nine innings, with extra innings played if tied .
DOS
Released in 1987 by Epyx for IBM PC compatibles, this version supports CGA and EGA graphics modes . The game retains all the features of the original: two playable fields, 16 unique characters, and one or two-player modes allowing head-to-head competition . Computer Gaming World's Rick Teverbaugh praised the game, writing that "home plate was a garbage can lid and old tree stumps were just part of the hazards of outfield duty... all that and more comes alive in this excellent program" . The DOS version features the same split-screen presentation as other ports, with an overhead radar view alongside the main isometric action . Sound is generated through the PC speaker . While some reviews noted that controls can feel slower compared to other versions, the game remains a charming and accessible entry in the Street Sports series .
