Leather Goddesses of Phobos

DOS

Leather Goddesses of Phobos is an interactive fiction game written by Steve Meretzky and published by Infocom in 1986. It was Infocom's first "sex farce", allowing players to select their character's gender (determined by which bathroom you enter at the game's start) and a "naughtiness" level ranging from "tame" to "lewd". Set in 1936, you are abducted by the Leather Goddesses of Phobos for final testing of their plan to enslave humanity. You must escape and save Earth from becoming their pleasure dome. The game features 75 locations including catacombs, Mars, Venus, outer space, and Cleveland. The parser understands about 900 words. Physical "feelies" included a Scratch 'n Sniff card, a 3-D comic book, 3-D glasses, and catacomb maps.

DOS

Released on July 11, 1986 by Infocom for MS-DOS on 3½" or 5¼" floppy disks, requiring DOS 2.0 or later . The DOS version features the full 900-word parser, all three naughtiness levels, and is a pure text adventure with no graphics . It supports keyboard input only, with text displayed on a monochrome or CGA monitor. The Solid Gold version (with in-game hints) was re-released on April 5, 1988 . The game was Infocom's twenty-first title and one of their five best-selling games, selling over 50,000 copies in 1986. Critical reception remains positive—Adventure Classic Gaming rated it 80%, while early DOS reviews averaged around 72-80% . Players praise the witty writing and puzzles, though the infamous catacombs maze is often cited as frustrating . A sequel, Leather Goddesses of Phobos 2, followed in 1992 .
