Jumpman is a single-screen platform game where you play as secret agent Jupiter Jumpman, tasked with defusing bombs planted by the evil Alienators in the Jupiter headquarters and two adjoining buildings. The game consists of 30 unique levels across three structures, each with its own distinct gimmick: moving robots, falling hailstones, dragons to spear, disappearing platforms, and gunfighters to shoot. Jumpman can run, climb ladders, and use green ropes (up) and blue ropes (down). Hazards include "smart darts" that speed up when aligned with you, fall damage, and level-specific traps. Touching a bomb defuses it for points; completing a level quickly awards bonus points. Five game modes allow starting from Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Grand Loop, or Randomizer. Up to four players can take turns.
DOS
The DOS version was published by Epyx in 1984, one year after the Commodore 64 and Atari originals. It runs on IBM PC compatibles with CGA graphics and supports up to four players taking turns. Unlike the smoother C64 port, the DOS version struggles on slower PCs: despite the game's simple looks, it does not run very fast on low-end 1980s hardware. The audio relies on the PC speaker, offering basic sound effects but no background music. The 30 levels and five game modes remain intact, preserving the challenging platforming of the original. A later unlicensed remake, Jumpman Lives!, was released as freeware in 1991, but the official 1984 port remains a historically important but technically modest conversion.
