I Play - 3D Tennis

Commodore 64

I Play 3D Tennis is a tennis simulation developed by Italian studio Simulmondo, also known as 3D World Tennis. The court is viewed from a third-person perspective behind the player, with the camera following the ball while keeping the tennis sprites at a constant size . You control all movements and shot direction with an 8-way joystick, both for serves and rallies . Game modes include ATP Tour, Grand Slam, Single Tournament, or a Single Match against another player . Up to five human players can participate in tournaments, choosing from five fictional preset players, while computer opponents correspond to real tennis stars with different playing abilities . Each tournament takes place in a different city: court surfaces affect ball behavior, and prize money indicates opponent difficulty . Player skills (forehand, backhand, serve, volley) improve by winning matches and prize money, moving up the rankings .

Released in 1992 by Simulmondo, coded by Paolo Severini with graphics by Ivan Venturi and produced by Francesco Carlà . Supports 1-2 simultaneous players via joystick (port 2) with selectable English or Italian language; in-progress tournaments can be saved . Considered the best tennis game on the Commodore 64, with use of all three SID channels and smooth animation . Features real player names including Stefan Edberg and Boris Becker, excellent court surface effects on ball rebounds, and summary statistics between sets . However, the game is criticized for being far too easy—even top-ranked players make frequent errors, and line calls are sometimes inaccurate . Highly playable but will grow boring soon. The best C64 tennis simulation despite its flaws .
